初 Hatsu significa: prima volta, inizio // 夢 Yume significa: sogno
E' il primo sogno (dell'anno nuovo), ed e' il sogno fatto nella notte tra il 1 e il 2 Gennaio. In base a cosa si sogna si puo' intuire se sara' un anno fortunato o no. Elementi portafortuna sono: il Monte Fuji, il falco, la melanzana, il ventaglio, il tabacco ecc ecc. Se sogni uno di questi sarai fortunato. :) Ma perche' i primi sono proprio il Fuji, il falco e la melanzana? Il Fuji e' veramente importante, e' la montagna piu' grande del Giappone ed e' considerato luogo sacro, il falco e' un animale possente, perspicace, forte, intuitivo, ingegnoso quindi positivo. Per quanto riguarda la melanzana, in giapponese si dice "nasu (o nasubi)" e il verbo nasu significa ottenere qualcosa di importante!!
Altre credenze semplicemente dicono che questi elementi piacevano allo shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu :)))))

1月2日初夢
初夢で1年の吉凶を占う風習が昔からあります。一般的には、正月2日の夜の夢が初夢とされています。
初夢に見ると縁起が良いものとして「一富士（ふじ）二鷹（たか）三茄子（なすび）」ということわざがあります。。

初 Hatsu means first time // 夢 Yume means dream
Hatsuyume (初夢) is the Japanese word for the first dream had in the new year. Usually, the contents of the dream would foretell the luck of the dreamer in the ensuing year. Hatsuyume is the the dream seen between the night of 1st and 2nd January .
It is considered to be particularly good luck to dream of Mount Fuji, a hawk, and an eggplant, but.. why???? Mount Fuji is Japan's highest mountain, the hawk is a clever and strong bird, and the word for eggplant (nasu or nasubi 茄子) suggests achieving something great (nasu成す). Another theory suggests that this combination arose because Mount Fuji, falconry, and early eggplants were favorites of the shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu. :))))
However there are other "lucky" element as: Yon-Sen, Go-Tabako, Roku-Zatō (四扇、五煙草、六座頭; Fan, Tobacco, Blind acupressurer) etc etc.. The origins of this trio are less well known, and it is unclear whether they were added after the original three or whether the list of six originated at the same time.
