Il 12 agosto e' il Giorno del Kimigayo (君が代記念日 Kimigayo Kinenbi)
Il Kimigayo e' l'inno nazionale giapponese. Dalla durata di 11 battute per 32 caratteri, e' uno dei piu' brevi al mondo.
Dal 12 Agosto 1893 i Ministeri della Pubblica Istruzione, della Cultura, dello Sport, della Scienza e della Tecnologia hanno istituito questa giornata per cantare e ricordare il Kimigayo, rafforzando l'identita' nazionale.

8月12日は、君が代記念日です。1893(明治26)年8月12日、
「小学校祝祭日大祭儀式規定」が公布され、小学校の祝日・大祭日の唱歌に『君が代』『一月一日』『紀元節』等8曲が
定められました。1999(平成11)年、「国旗国歌法」により正式に国歌となりました。

Kimigayo is Japan's national anthem. It is also one of the world's shortest national anthems in current use, with a length of 11 measures and 32 characters. Its lyrics are based on a Waka poem written in the Heian period (794-1185), sung to a melody written in the later Meiji period.
In 1880, the Ministry of the Imperial Household adopted a new melody composed by Yoshiisa Oku and Akimori Hayashi. By 1893, "Kimigayo" was included in public school ceremonies due to the efforts of the then Ministry of Education
