16 Gennaio e' ricordato come il giorno dell'astinenza. Negli Stati Uniti, il proibizionismo (il fatto o la pratica di trattenersi dall'indulgere in qualcosa, tipicamente l'alcol) ebbe inizio il 16 gennaio 1920, quando entro' in vigore il diciottesimo emendamento.

プロレスタントの影響が強かったアメリカでは、20世紀初頭までに18の州で禁酒法が実施されていましたが、
これが全国に及んだものです。

Prohibition began on January 16, 1920, when the Eighteenth Amendment went into effect. Federal Prohibition agents (police) were given the task of enforcing the law.
