2 ottobre è il Giorno del telescopio (望遠鏡の日 Bōenkyō no Hi)
Il 2 ottobre 1608 l'artigiano tedesco naturalizzato olandese Hans Lippershey ha inventato il telescopio. In Giappone viene ricordata questa giornata estremamente importante per l'astronomia. Uno dei telescopi nipponici più famoso è Subaru che si trova nell'osservatorio di Mauna Kea, Hawaii.

望遠鏡の日（10月2日記念日） 1608年のこの日、オランダの眼鏡技師ハンス・リッペルハイ（1570年～1619年）が凹レンズと凸レンズを組み合わせると遠くの物が近くに見えるという望遠鏡を発明し、特許を申請するためにオランダの国会に書類を提示した。

2 October 1608, Lippershey laid claim to a device that could magnify objects three times. His telescope had a concave eyepiece aligned with a convex objective lens.
