Il 17 Luglio e' il giorno dedicato a Tokyo! Citta' fondata nel XV secolo col nome di Edo, intorno al 1600 fu scelta come residenza del primo Shogun Tokugawa, sotto la cui influenza si sviluppò rapidamente. Dopo il passaggio dei poteri dallo Shogun all’Imperatore, il 17 Luglio 1868 la citta' assunse l’attuale nome di Tokyo diventando la capitale dell’Impero. (Tokyo letteralmente significa "capitale orientale", in quanto si trova piu' a oriente della precedente capitale imperiale Kyoto)

7月17日は、東京の日です。1868(慶応4)年7月17日、明治天皇の詔勅により「江戸」が「東京」に改称されました。1943(昭和18)年に府が東京都になり、1948(昭和23)年に現在の23区制が敷かれました。

On the 17th day of the 7th month 1868, Edo was renamed Tokyo
In 1868, when the shogunate came to an end, the city was renamed Tokyo ("eastern capital"). The emperor moved his residence to Tokyo, making the city the formal capital of Japan.
